Marukyu Koyamaen has grown and processed tea in Ogura, in the heart of Uji, since around 1704, when Kyujiro Koyama began working tea there. The company has taken first prize at Japan's National Tea Competition 22 times, and its matcha is used by tea schools, shrines and temples across Japan.
The range starts with Aoarashi and Isuzu, gentle matcha for everyday usucha, and climbs through Chigi no Shiro, Yugen and Wako to Unkaku, Choan and Kinrin at the top. The everyday grades also make a smooth latte.
