A kyusu is a Japanese teapot with the handle set at the side. You pour with your wrist, so it is easy to stop and start, and short pours keep the leaves moving. The built-in ceramic sasame filter is wide, so it pours fast and clogs less.
These come from the workshop of Fujita Tokuta, born 1975 in Kitakyushu. He entered the Tokoname City Ceramic Research Institute in 1996 and studied under Araki Toshio from 1999, arriving at teapots through contemporary ceramic art rather than a family workshop.
At roughly 220ml, this pot works well for one to three servings through multiple infusions.
Before first use, soak in warm water (60-80°C) for 30-60 minutes. Rinse with hot water after brewing and dry completely with the lid off. No soap or detergent, which the clay absorbs.
Each piece is handmade, so color, size, and weight may vary slightly from the photo. Product color may also vary slightly due to photographic lighting or monitor settings.
