Taiwanese Buddha's Hand Black Tea is a fun, fruity, and smooth black tea with pieces of dried Buddha's hand citrus. You may have seen Buddha's hand in the grocery store (they do indeed look a bit like hands, though I doubt very much that the Buddha's hands looked like that). This unusual citrus has finger-like segments and an aromatic profile similar to bergamot. In Chinese it's called Fo Shou Gan, a name also used to describe bergamot flavoring.
The tea is double scented with Buddha's hand citron pieces and a light touch of bergamot. The citrus element is subtle and not heavy-handed at all, letting the tea's natural fruit character take center stage.
The base tea comes from Sanxia District in New Taipei City, northern Taiwan. Sanxia is best known for its green teas but also produces distinctive black teas made from the Qing Xin Gan Zi cultivar. This is the same cultivar used for many high-mountain oolongs, which is why this black tea tastes lighter and more delicate than the malty, robust character typical of Assamica-descended Taiwanese blacks.
Ingredients: black tea, Buddha's hand citrus, bergamot flavor
