PUKU is a handleless kyusu made by Sekiryu Kiln in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, worked up from the kiln's own original design. The name is written with 福, the character for good fortune, chosen as a wish for the people who use it.
The strainer sits in the lid rather than in the body. Leaf goes straight into the pot, and as you tip it the tea passes through the perforated disc set into the underside of the lid and out through the notch cut in the collar.
The clay is unglazed ryokudei, Tokoname's green clay. The color comes from a metal oxide blended into the clay body rather than from a glaze, so it runs right through the pot and stays matte instead of glassy. Fine combed lines circle the body and the top of the lid. It holds ~400ml and measures roughly 10.5 cm across and 9.5 cm tall.
Rinse with hot water after use and let it dry completely with the lid off. Avoid soap and detergent.
Each piece may vary slightly in appearance from the photo. Product color may also vary slightly due to photographic lighting or monitor settings.
