We are thrilled to offer this organic Pindaya Black Tea from Myanmar (also called Burma). The tea has a clean profile with a pleasant, thick mouthfeel. Notes of roasted apples and spice complement its low astringency, making it extremely pleasant and comfortable to drink. While not hugely complex, we value it for its delightfully fresh, pure taste and friendly nature.
We've been consistently impressed with Myanmar teas, though they are difficult to source due to ongoing challenges in the region. This tea comes from Shan State, home to some of the world's oldest and most valuable tea trees, with a tea culture dating back to the 9th century.
The region faces significant challenges. Myanmar is one of the world's most landmine-infested countries, with some areas too dangerous to harvest. Shan State's infrastructure needs considerable improvement, affecting tea production and transport. The ongoing armed conflict since the 2021 military coup has further complicated these challenges.
