Nyot Ou Ancient Forest White Tea from Laos
This is a beautiful, lush white tea from old growth tea trees in northern Laos. The liquor is thick and sweet with a meadowy, verdant quality. We picked up on aromatics of lemon chiffon, young bamboo, and cucumber with a smooth and well-rounded body.
Nyot Ou is the northernmost district of Laos in Phongsaly Province, right next to Yunnan's Yiwu tea mountains in China. There are many old tea trees there which were originally planted by nomadic peoples and then abandoned long ago. They reach fifteen to twenty meters tall. Local farmers have to climb the trees to hand-pick the tender buds and youngest leaves from the highest branches. For this white tea, the fresh leaves undergo minimal processing: careful withering followed by gentle drying - that's it.
