Another single cultivar sencha from Masahiro Kuma and Kazumi Nakatani, grown without agrochemicals in their fields in Joyo-machi, Yame. Tsuyuhikari is a Shizuoka cultivar, bred from Asatsuyu and Shizu 7132, and most of what you find is grown there. The Kuma family has been making tea here for over a century, and Masahiro and Kazumi have kept it decorated: Best in Show at THE LEAFIES in 2023 and again in 2024, a Paris grand prix, a national first place for their gyokuro.
Tsuyuhikari takes its sweetness and low astringency from Asatsuyu and its aroma from Shizu 7132, and the light steaming here is chosen to protect that aroma. Velvety and sweet, fresh on the palate, with an herbal note that carries well past the sip.
First flush harvest, April 2026.
