Kuma's Award Winning Sencha Saemidori
A single cultivar fukamushi style sencha with playful fruitiness, silky umami, and the lovely nuttiness characteristic of Yame teas. This award-winning tea is grown by highly respected tea makers Masahiro Kuma (third generation) and his wife Kazumi Nakatani (herself a fourth generation tea farmer). Their fields in Joyo-machi (Yame) benefit from cool nights and a steady breeze which allows them to farm without agrochemicals. Saemidori is one of the most popular and approachable Japanese green tea cultivars, prized for its brilliant green color, high umami, and low astringency—this tea won the gold medal (Prix D'OR) at the 2020 Japanese Tea Selection in Paris.
