Ha to Hi to Hi is a 2026 first-harvest kamairicha from Ureshino in Saga Prefecture. The leaves have a warm, fruity aroma with a subtle toasty fragrance from the firing. It brews a golden liquor that's sweet and chestnut-y, with a soft mouthfeel and addictive aroma. A touch of astringency keeps it nicely balanced.
Kamairicha is pan-fired instead of steamed like most Japanese green tea. The fresh leaves are heated in a hot iron pan, then rolled and dried into curled shapes. Very little Japanese tea is made this way today. Ureshino is one of the only places where it's still made.
