Borderland Puerh Explorer

You might have heard that puerh can only come from Yunnan, but the same large-leaf tea grows just across the border in Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and northern Thailand, often on old trees that are truly magnificent. Historically, much of it has ended up pressed in China or sold as "border tea" as though it were a poor copy. We think these teas deserve to be enjoyed for what they are. The set includes:

  • 2025 Xayaboury Ancient Forest Raw Puerh from Laos - a wildcrafted raw puerh from ancient trees in northwestern Laos (15 grams)
  • 2020 "Gold Leaf" Golden Triangle Old Tree Raw Puerh from Myanmar - an award-winning old tree raw from the Kokang region of northern Shan State (25 grams)
  • 2026 Charcoal Roasted Chiang Mai Raw Puerh from Thailand - an unusual charcoal roasted loose leaf raw puerh (25 grams)
  • 2008 Hung Cuong Ripe Puerh from Vietnam - an unusual older ripe puerh from pioneer tea maker Hung Cuong (25 grams)

The Borderland Puerh Explorer is attractively packaged with a postcard introduction to borderland puerh and a tea steeping guide.

We highly recommend steeping puerh tea using a gaiwan or gong fu style tea pot. We have some nice ones on our site, but this is a great starter set to get one's feet wet learning how to gong fu steep.
