2011 Dayi Mengsong Raw Puerh Tuo

Mengsong is one of the highest tea-producing areas in Xishuangbanna, sitting in the same mountain range as Nannuo and Bulang but at greater elevation, with dense forest cover and year-round clouds and mist. The name translates roughly to "tribe on a high mountain" in the Dai language. Mengsong teas share some of the punch that characterizes western Xishuangbanna puerh, but the high altitude produces something more fragrant and sweet than neighboring Bulang material, with a distinctive bitterness that lingers before resolving into a clean, lasting sweetness. It's a specific terroir that sets these teas apart.

This 2011 Dayi pressing features solid leaf material for a factory tuo. At roughly 14 years old with clean storage, it's settled into something quite enjoyable. The cup is bright and aromatic with good body, pronounced huigan, and that distinct Mengsong character. Ready to drink now but with plenty of room to continue developing. A genuinely intriguing tea at a great price for anyone curious about what Mengsong brings to the table.

Each whole tuo is 250 grams. Batch 101.
