GIFT GIVING MADE EASY
A kyusu is a Japanese teapot with a side handle, designed for brewing Japanese leaf tea. The side handle placement makes it easy to pour in short bursts, helping the tea leaves mix and brew evenly. This kyusu features a fine ceramic mesh filter (sasame) that strains leaves effectively while maintaining good water flow.
Made from smooth, light-colored Tokoname clay, this kyusu has a rounded body shape. The lid fits precisely to the body through a post-firing adjustment process, a hallmark of quality Tokoname craftsmanship.
Takasuke Pottery was founded shortly after World War II by Osamu Kita and is now led by his son, Hiroshi Kita, who trained at Kyoto Prefectural Ceramics School. Takasuke teapots are recommended by the Japanese Tea Instructors Association, a non-profit organization established in 2002 to promote Japanese tea culture. This designation recognizes the workshop's consistent quality and functional design. Tokoname is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, with over 900 years of pottery history.
Before first use, fill the kyusu with warm water (60-80°C) and let it sit for 30-60 minutes. Empty and rinse. For regular cleaning, rinse with warm water only—no detergent. The ceramic mesh filter can be gently cleaned with a soft brush if needed, taking care not to damage the delicate mesh. After washing, empty any water from the spout and body, then leave the lid off to dry completely before storing. Tokoname pottery is less porous than Yixing clay and does not require extensive seasoning.
