Summer Alishan Red, featured in our October Monthly Tea Club, is a gorgeous, expressive black tea from Taiwan. Made using Qing Xin varietal plants growing at very high elevation (1520 m) in Alishan, this tea was hand harvested in summer 2024 from one of the highest gardens in the region. The garden is meticulously maintained, being weeded by hand and cultivated without the use of industrial pesticides.
The tea leaves are smaller and thinner than typical high mountain Oolong leaves, producing a jewel-toned red liquor. The dry leaves have a fresh scent with high notes that remind one of green apples, while the steeped tea is captivating.
This tea is exquisite. It offers a gorgeous smooth fruitiness with notes of sweet apple and grape, perfectly aligned with its body. The taste is mostly sweet with a slight fresh sour note that adds to the aftertaste and high mountain character. It feels smooth and fresh.
Summer Alishan Red comes from a farmer dedicated to organic practices and careful leaf selection.
