Okuyame Competition Grade Sencha
Okuyame Sencha is a competition grade Japanese green tea with a thick sweetness, abundant umami, and a barely perceptible astringency. It is truly special and satisfying, especially if you're a fan of umami forward Japanese teas.
Made by third-generation tea maker Kakuda Tatsuya with leaves grown in the misty high valleys of Okuyame (in Yame, Fukuoka), this sencha is a blend of Ooiwase and Yabukita cultivars. In addition to its exceptional taste and mouthfeel, Kakuda Seicha's teas have an exceptionally high level of theanine. Higher levels of theanine generally mean more pronounced umami and natural sweetness, and indicate the tea might have a more relaxing effect on the body.
