Masui Tea Farm's Organically Grown Mirai Japanese Black Tea

Etsuro Masui is one of the pioneers of Japanese black tea. He spent sixteen years working out how to make wakocha at a time when hardly anyone in Japan was trying, taking more from Chinese and Taiwanese practice than from anything at home, and he committed to organic growing long before customers were asking for it. He is still one of the most inventive makers in the country.

Mirai is his own cultivar. He grows it at 500 to 600 meters in Kawane without pesticides, using the chagusaba method the region is recognized for, where grass cut from the surrounding meadows is laid down between the rows.

Soft and fragrant, expressive. Sweet citrus, honey and dark ripe berries in the aromatics, with a full mouthfeel and a medium weight body.

First flush, spring 2026 harvest.
