A fragrant single cultivar black tea with notes of ripe fruit and the floral impression that comes with Koshun cultivar. Very expressive, steeping very well over multiple infusions. It's a first flush production so the leaves are still a bit greenish, though it has been well oxidized and pours a lovely dark amber color.
Etsuro Masui is one of the pioneers of Japanese black tea. He spent sixteen years working out how to make wakocha at a time when hardly anyone in Japan was trying, taking more from Chinese and Taiwanese practice than from anything at home, and he committed to organic growing long before customers were asking for it. He is still one of the most inventive makers in the country.
First flush, spring 2026. From Kawane in Shizuoka.
