GIFT GIVING MADE EASY
This handcrafted matcha bowl from Yuzangama features a striking deep blue glaze that cascades down the sides with amber and charcoal drips. Made in Gifu Prefecture's Mino region, each bowl is individually glazed, resulting in unique variations in color, pattern, and drip effects.
The hantsutsu-gata (half-cylindrical) shape offers practical advantages for matcha preparation. Shorter than traditional tall cylindrical bowls, it provides better stability and easier whisking access. The slightly hollowed rim helps retain heat while you prepare your tea.
Yuzangama's commitment to traditional, time-intensive pottery methods means each piece displays the authentic characteristics of handmade ceramics - natural crazing in the glaze, subtle variations in form, and one-of-a-kind firing patterns. The exposed clay on the base reveals the earthy, rustic quality of the materials.
Mino-yaki refers to pottery made in the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture, which produces roughly half of all Japanese ceramics and is renowned for its diverse glazing techniques and innovative styles.
