Tsubokiri Sencha Gold from Marukyu Koyamaen is the premium version of their autumn seasonal release, available only during the fall months. Like all Tsubokiri teas, this spring-harvested sencha is aged through summer before being opened in autumn. The aging process creates really impressive complexity. It opens lightly floral and sweet, then a deeper richness shows up midway through the sip. The texture is super smooth, and there's genuine complexity here with layers that unfold as you drink. The finish is sweet and light but still somehow substantial, with a lasting quality where gentle umami notes reveal themselves without turning into an umami bomb.
Each bag contains 80 grams. Marukyu Koyamaen, founded in 1704 in Uji, has won over twenty-two first prizes in Japan's National Tea Competition.
