This first flush Benifuki black tea is naturally grown and crafted by fourth generation tea maker Hiroki Murakami at his family's historic, agrochemical-free garden in Yoshiwara, Shizuoka. The Benifuki cultivar, a cross of Assam and Darjeeling teas, was specifically cultivated for black tea grown in Japan. Notably, it also has a high catechin-methyl content, believed to be beneficial for allergies.
Smooth yet bright, the cup offers cozy notes of wood and camphor, balanced by a lively astringency. This makes for an exceptional everyday black tea.
2023 Harvest. This tea earned a Gold Medal at the 2023 Nihoncha Awards.
