Marukyu Koyamaen Spring Sencha Hakka no Kaori
Hakka no Kaori ("fragrance of a hundred flowers") is a spring seasonal sencha from Marukyu Koyamaen, available only briefly each year. The cup is crisp and refreshing, with a delicate vegetal quality that brings to mind sweet pea tendrils, tender bamboo shoots, and the lightest touch of roasted vegetables. There's a gentle sweetness throughout, a hint of brothy depth, and the finish is clean and lingering without any heaviness.
This is a smooth, easy-drinking sencha that rewards attention but doesn't demand it. It's an approachable cup from one of Uji's most storied producers, founded in 1704 and winner of over twenty-two first prizes in Japan's National Tea Competition.
