Craigmore Estate TGFOP1 Second Flush Nilgiri
Another great tea that you must try if you want to understand the complexity, beauty, and variety of black teas.
There are three great tea-growing areas of India: Assam, Darjeeling, and Nilgiri. Nilgiri means Blue Mountains. Located in southern India, it is known for its breathtaking views and pleasant weather. Nilgiri second flush teas lie somewhere between the light spicy tasting Darjeelings and the strong second flush Assam teas.
Craigmore is one of the great tea gardens in Nilgiri located between five and six thousand feet up in those misty undulating mountains. Craigmore Estate has been around since 1884.
TGFOP1 means tippy golden flowery orange pekoe first class. CL stands for clonal. Clonals are valued because they are cuttings from tea plants that make the best tea. Craigmore is somewhat unique in that they created their own clonal, known as CR 6017. CR 6017 is a camellia sinensis sinensis hybrid clone. It is known for producing high quality tea and is used by other Nilgiri tea estates such as Parkside to produce their own high-grade tea.
This is a great tea for mornings or afternoons. Ideally you should take your cup of Craigmore Nilgiri while gazing out over the panoramic Nilgiris, but as that is not always (and some would say rarely) possible we encourage you to think on how this tea came from a beautiful place, and how it too is a beautiful thing.
Use 2 grams of tea for every 6 ounces of water. Generally this works out to a teaspoon per every 6 ounces of water. Steep for 4 minutes with boiling water. This tea is tasty as is or with milk and/or sweetener.
