  • 2010 Dayi 7542 Raw Puerh Cake

The 7542 raw puerh recipe from Dayi (aka Menghai) Tea Factory is considered a benchmark tea. First produced in 1975, these cakes are routinely celebrated and purchased in large quantities for their aging potential. While quite robust and burly when young, properly stored 7542s develop beautifully, yielding a smooth aged character with pronounced camphor notes and thick mouthfeel.

This particular 7542 is from the first batch production (001) and was naturally stored in Taiwan until mid-2024. The initial strength of the raw leaves has matured into something still potent but no longer aggressive. It presents a slight fruity quality with a tangy edge – somewhat plummy – alongside prominent camphor notes and a crisp liquor. This tea exemplifies a well-developed mid-aged 7542, suitable for either immediate drinking or further aging.

In our opinion, it's particularly advantageous to collect teas with a significant aging head start from places like Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Malaysia, as puerh tends to transform more rapidly when stored properly in these environments.

Each cake is approximately 357 grams.

Note: The wrappers have mild staining.
